Black Panthers on Sen. Obama's team

Rev. J. Alfred Smith Sr., a Oakland minister and strong supporter of the Black Panthers, is a prominent friend of Sen Obama.  He is on his campaign team and highlighted on one of Sen Obama's websites.  This is amazing.  You would think that Sen Obama would repudiate associations with Rev. Wright and the Black Panthers.

The whole Obama thing is a shame on our nation to even allow this man to run for president of the United States. The presidency is a high office that should only be filled by a man of great honor and integrity. Obama has neither.

Why would he repudiate associations with anyone who once supported the Black Panthers? Not sure how old you are, but I was alive when the Black Panthers were going strong, and they were not necessarily a bad group even though they were demon-ized by the US government, who happened to fear them because they brought blacks together and they empowered them during a time in history when they were no longer slaves but anything but free. The whole working class of America could use a little of that kind of empowerment if you ask me.

You have an interesting perspective. I grew up in the 1960's and remember them quite well. We will have to agree to disagree about the Black Panthers.
